HUD Ideas in Action, powered by a tool called UserVoice, allows people to come together, share ideas in response to a question, discuss those ideas, and vote the best ones to the top for consideration by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The tool was initially used to get ideas that further HUD's FY 2010-2015 Strategic Plan and as a forum for HUD employees and stakeholders to share their ideas for improving HUD. As HUD embarked on the FY 2010-2015 Strategic Planning process, it became clear that employees and stakeholders had countless ideas on ways to transform our organization.
HUD Ideas in Action consists of three forums.
- Public Feedback includes a number of categories that allow the public and HUD employees to voice their concerns on any issue related to HUD operations.
- Transform the Way HUD Does Business is only open to HUD employees and seeks feedback on specific administrative or operational issues. Users must log-in using a valid HUD e-mail address.
- The third forum will change on a rotating basis. It is available to offer HUD's program offices the opportunity to seek input on specific questions that they would like the public to provide input on.
Once you go to the appropriate forum, simply type your idea into the search box. If a similar idea has already been suggested, you can vote for that idea. If you idea is brand new, go ahead and suggest it. A good idea is made up of three main parts: a statement of the problem, a proposed solution to the problem, and the possible benefits of the solution. Ideas submitted should fit in with HUD's Strategic Plan, be efficient, safe, legal, and directly increase the effectiveness of government operations. Remember, we can only act on an idea if it is clearly articulated..
Reducing the Number of Printed Pages: The Office of Chief Information Officer implemented a new standard to "Go Green" configuration on all network printers to eliminate the use of banner pages. Employees are encouraged to print two-sided documents whenever possible.
Non-contract Carrier Travel: HUD delegated the authority to approve non-contract carrier travel to the Regional Directors in the field.
PDF Converter: The Office of the Chief Information Officer installed PDF Converter Professional on all HUD computers, including any laptops that are connected to the network. With the PDF Converter software, all HUD employees, including those who are teleworking, are able to create PDF documents and convert Office documents into PDF documents. This new software also allows for digital signatures.
