On August 23, 2012 the New Jersey HUD office donated 1,134 lbs of non-perishable food to non-profit organizations that help children and families. Newark Office staff joined Director Diane Johnson in the presentations of food donations to two area shelters. Isaiah House, the only remaining shelter in East Orange, which provides temporary lodging, food, social and financial service for over 100 families each year, and Apostles’ House which provides social services to homeless and at-risk families and individuals in Newark. Zammeah Bivens-Gibson, Executive Director, Isaiah House and Tiffany Senior, a representative of Sandra Accomando, the Chief Executive Officer of Apostles' House, Joined HUD Newark staff to accept the donations.
