On Friday and Saturday, November 8 & 9, 2013 the Morristown National Guard Armory was the setting for a Veterans’ Stand Down. The Stand Down hosted by NJ Fallen Soldiers and Community Hope  provided free services in the form of VA benefits and health screenings, housing assistance, mental health referrals, addiction & recovery assistance, welfare & social security counseling, legal services, employment referrals, haircuts, clothing, and meals. Equal Opportunity Specialist Marilyn Boddy, Program Compliance Branch Chief Brenda Edmondson, and Senior Management Analyst Carleton Lewis represented HUD with federal partners the Veterans’ Administration, Social Security, Health and Human Services, U.S. Marine Corps, and several public and private social service agencies. The two day outreach and assistance event attracted hundreds of homeless and at-risk Veterans.  HUD staff provided information and assistance on fair housing, HUD-VASH, affordable housing and other HUD programs.
