Confirmation Hearing for New HUD Secretary
Steven C. Preston, head of the U.S. Small Business Administration, has been nominated by President Bush to be HUD's new Secretary. His confirmation hearing was held in Washington, DC, on May 22.
Back to Basics
With the housing markets in turmoil, more and more families are going "back to the basics" of safe, sound, affordable housing by using FHA-insured mortgages to buy or refinance their homes. In the past seven months alone, FHA has insured more mortgages in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington than in either of the two previous years.
Spotlight on Innovation
The Siskiyou subdivision in Ashland, OR is an affordable homeownership project in a community filled with culture, recreation, tourism and escalating housing prices. The project is an excellent example of how public/private partnerships can create beautiful, livable, yet affordable, housing in the Northwest.
