On December 1, 2016, FHA issued Mortgagee Letter 16-20, effective for forward mortgage case numbers, and Mortgagee Letter 16-19 effective for Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) case numbers, assigned on or after January 1, 2017.
These Mortgagee Letters provide the maximum mortgage limits for Title II FHA-insured forward mortgages and the maximum claim amounts for FHA-insured traditional HECM, HECM for purchase, and HECM-to-HECM refinances, for calendar year 2017 respectively.
Forward mortgage limits for 2017 can be found in HUD Handbook 4000.1. Refer to Mortgagee Letter 16-19 for more details on the HECM maximum claim amounts.
For calendar year 2017, the HECM nationwide claim amount has increased to $636,150 for all areas.
