General Information

The Oakland Housing Authority (OHA) has utilized its participation in the MTW Demonstration program in the following three primary areas: 

  1. Preserving and enhancing the public housing portfolio through a combination of enhanced operations and an aggressive effort to address deferred maintenance and improve physical conditions;
  2. Preserving and expanding affordable housing opportunities through real estate development, site acquisition, partnerships with non-profit developers and active coordination with the City of Oakland; and,
  3. Promoting resident empowerment and self sufficiency by enhancing the quality and reach of client services provided both in-house and in partnership with community based service providers.

OHA currently administers approximately 3,700 public housing units and 12,900 housing choice vouchers.

MTW Status

OHA's MTW program began March 31, 2004. OHA signed the Standard Agreement in 2009, extending its participation in MTW until the end of its 2018 fiscal year.
